The main goal of the clamp method is to assess and quantify insulin sensitivity.
The most suitable species for this test during non-clinical testing is pig or minipig.
Insulin activity is measured during glucose challenge (infusion) after treatment with the tested insulin product. In the euglycemic clamp test the infusion rate of the glucose infusion pump is continuously adjusted to maintain euglycemia (normal plasma glucose level, base line).
The changes in infusion rate are evaluated.
